Sitting on the floor in my bathroom crying my eyes out, I thought I had hit rock bottom. My heart felt as though it was disconnected from my body and lost in a field of hopelessness. I didn’t know where to find it or how to pull myself out of this feeling of emptiness.
There on the floor, I made a life changing decision. I refused to feel like this anymore. In that moment I decided to rewrite the narrative. It was a narrative I had been writing and continuing since I was a youth.
As a young girl, I allowed personal experiences such as life changes, failed relationships, and embarrassing experiences at school to take over and make me feel like I wasn’t enough. This feeling carried into my adulthood and even penetrated my relationships. I was so tired of this cycle that it had to come to an end. And on the floor of that bathroom, I decided this was the
I had to dig deep and use all of my resources to transform my internal dialogue. I grounded myself in stillness and took control of my thoughts and feelings. There, I entered into a space of mindfulness.
No, I didn’t get up from the floor being instantly healed, but I did get up from that floor making the decision that this wouldn’t be the end of my story. This was the catalytic experience that led to a journey of self-discovery.
What did I do differently than I had ever done before?
After that moment of being more mindful and bringing clarity to my emotions, the initial step was to explore my generational blueprint and uncover which experiences from my youth had perpetuated and cultivated this sense of lack.
In that moment, I didn’t feed my emotions with outside stimuli, but I still sat with the emotions. I examined those emotions and thoughts that rose up and explored them from a compassionate standpoint. I decided to listen to what my inner voice was saying and what I needed to do. In those moments of compassion, I learned to embrace every part of me. These steps continue to carry me through this journey of life, allowing me to embrace the full essence of my being.
As you continue to journey through life, take those moments to sit with uncomfortable feelings, exploring your past and present emotions with compassion, and embracing your essence.
